Do you have your own techniques when cleaning your clients home or office? Everyone seems to develop techniques and systems that works for them. But are they the most efficient ways to clean? Following are tips for cleaning more efficiently in your cleaning business. 1. Make the most of every movement in order to save time. Use two hands if possible, and avoid back-tracking as this is a big time-waster. Think about that for a minute. Every time you go back to another room to retreive your dust cloth or cleaning chemical it's costing you time and money. 2. Keep your supplies close at hand. Use a cleaning caddy to carry all your chemicals with you. Most caddies also have room for a toothbrush (for detail work), and cleaning cloths as well. This will help keep you from backtracking. 3. Clean from top to bottom. If you don't work this way, you may find yourself re-cleaning areas. For example, when dusting, start with your extension duster and dust everything that's out of arm's reach - ceiling fans, ledges, etc. The dust will fall to the floor or lower surfaces so you can remove it when doing eye-level dusting. 4. Work clockwise or counterclockwise around the room. You don't want to move from one side of the room to the other side and then back again, as you'll end up backtracking and using extra steps. Also, when you work in circular patterns around the room, it's less likely that you'll miss something on your checklist. 5. Let your cleaning products do the work for you. Some of your products may need dwell time to work better. Be sure to allow the chemical to work before wiping, or you may find yourself using more elbow grease than you need to. 6. Keep your tools and equipment in good working order. Clean up your equipment at the end of the day - rinse out or wash cleaning cloths, clean mop heads, fill bottles, and empty vacuum bags.
