Housekeeping Cart Basics

By: Steve Hanson

A housekeeping cart is used to carry equipment and supplies in a commercial cleaning setting. Some cleaning companies prefer using a "brute", which is a trash barrel on wheels, and which also contains a maid caddy or apron with pockets for cleaning supplies.

Housekeeping carts also have room to store a broom, mop, mop bucket, and vacuum cleaner. In addition to equipment, the following is a basic list of supplies that should be carried on your housekeeping cart:

*Small, medium and large size trash can liners
*Dusters
*Color-coded microfiber cloths
*All-purpose cleaner
*Disinfectant cleaner
*Glass cleaner
*Stainless steel cleaner
*Toilet bowl cleaner
*Bowl brush or toilet bowl swab
*White hand pads
*Toothbrush
*Dispenser supplies: toilet paper, hand towels, soap, toilet seat covers, paper liners for sanitary receptacles, air freshener refills.

Having a proplerly stocked housekeeping cart keeps janitorial workers from running back and forth to the janitor closet, which saves both time and money.
