Have You Made the Switch to Microfiber Cleaning Cloths Yet?

By: Steve Hanson

Microfibers seem to be everywhere these days. Have you made the switch yet? This advancement in cleaning technology now makes regular headlines in trade magazines.

Microfiber cloths are made by splitting polyester fibers into millions of microfibers, each 100 times thinner than a human hair. These miniscule interwoven fibers provide greater surface contact and absorbency than normal cloths, eliminating the need for a cleaning chemical in most situations.

What are the Benefits?

*Minimizes the need for cleaning chemicals
*Traps dirt and removes it, rather than moving it around on a surface
*Minimizes streaking due to the higher absorbency
*Shortens time spent cleaning a surface
*Can be laundered and reused over and over again - lasts much longer than traditional cotton cloths

How does it work?

Since the individual fibers are so tiny, more fibers are necessary to weave a sturdy cloth. Therefore, the surface area being cleaned is increased because the space between fibers is much smaller.

Used dry, microfiber cloths also generate static electricity, which attracts dust particles.

What surfaces can microfiber cloths be used on?

They can be used on almost any hard surface. A big plus is that they can be used on delicate surfaces such as chrome and glass, without damaging the surface. Microfibers are easy to maintain. Just rinse them out with a small amount is dishwashing liquid, or clean them in the washing machine and tumble or air dry.
